The Fight

On this dark battlefield I stand
Covered in deep shades of muddied blood
Standing as tall as I can bear
Eyes narrowed and focused
Staring into unrelenting sprays of arrows
They sink deep into the ground around me
They penetrate my armor through to skin
I grit my teeth and lift my chin higher
I march forward for those who fall
They stood by my sides
Chanting and chilled with expectant fears
The enemies cries were deafening in their ears
The dark shades that poured from them weakened their resolve
They fell to the cold soil and cried out
And now their cries are all I hear
They gripped at my arms
Tearing flesh as they dropped
But I must march on for them

Though my skin burns from their nails
Though my blood pumps past my skin
Though the night never may lift to dawn
I must stand tall and march on
